About my way of working with amateur dancers

© Stephan Kaasche

When working with people who are not professional dancers but have a special interest in art and dance, their bodies seem to have hidden information that is activated during the work. This is a beautiful discovery for me as well as for the dancers. I want to capture the specificity of each person and use the sensitive material of their body to give aesthetics and meaning to their expression.

I want all participants to feel part of what I am offering, which means that they are actively involved, because at the end of the day they will tell what is happening to them with their own bodies. I want to know what moves them and makes them dance. I want to know what people think and feel when they dance, what drives them to dance and how they communicate with their bodies and dance. In this way, the creative process and the finished piece take on the added value of their own meaning. What each individual tells and what they all express together – that is what gives this added value.

As part of the creative process, what we do is a deep work of body exploration and sensory perception. We translate ideas, inner and outer stimuli, words and gestures into movement – we dance.
